Gentilly

Comprised of 9+ pocket neighborhoods, the Gentilly is one of the most sprawling neighborhoods of the city where the architecture in each pocket is a direct reflection of the age each area was developed. Gentilly’s start began with the construction of a railroad and the resort-like town of Milneburg in the mid to late 1800s. By the very late 1800s it had turned into an entertainment destination with many jazz greats passing through.

What most consider to be modern day Gentilly was developed from the 1930s to the mid 1950s. The area is decorated in a wide stretching mixture of architectural styles. A significant portion of the area is made up of Post-War ranch style homes but bungalows (Gentilly Terrace), midcentury modern (Lake Vista), cottages (Sugar Hill) and even Spanish style architecture (Gentilly Blvd) are very commonly found types of houses.
