Marigny/Bywater

Sitting side by side and a short jaunt from the French Quarter is the Marigny and Bywater area. Locally referred to as “The Marigny” or “The Bywater”, these areas’ boundaries are different depending on the source. Like most of Orleans parish, the Marigny/Bywater started as plantation land which became a home at one time for a mix of free people of color, french and spanish creoles and many other immigrant groups.

Known for its colorful Creole Cottages and Shotgun style houses, these neighborhoods are adjacent to the Mississippi River. A haven for the artistic, these neighborhoods have a wide mix of residents due to its easy going style and proximity to New Orleans nightlife.
